Since 1990, in the Ain region, in the heart of the Dombes, the Golf de La Bresse, Golf Collection Golfy, enjoys the tranquillity of a former hunting reserve. On these lands, alternating clearings and forest, dotted with a multitude of ponds, frogs and thousands of birds enjoy Jérémy Pern’s 90-hectare layout to parade and nest in peace.
On the outward journey, holes are quite open, except for the 2nd where the right dogleg hiding a pond behind the trees can upset sliceurs. Between the ponds – the signature of the Dombes – the design requires as much power as finesse by alternating holes in the plain with those in the forest, more present on the return. Between the 11th and 12th, close to a two hectare pond, the danger is omnipresent.
First on a right dogleg with a green on the peninsula where plunges are frequent. Then on a par 3 linking the tee, the water and the green over about 140 metres from the yellow. Quite playable except that the water disturbs neurons…
In the aftermath, the layout tightens in the forest density, on a pretty par 5 turning left. The sequence of three doglegs up to the 15th obliges the player to control his bets to greens that are fairly easy to read.
On the way back to the spacious clubhouse, the fairway of the 18th, separated from the 9th by a hedge, looks good. Enough to sign a last birdie before honouring the table. In this land of good food where the capon is the king, the chef sublimates regional dishes, as well as a well maintained course.
