From the 5th to the 9th of April, the “Spain Golf Tour 50th Anniversary PGA” starts in Barcelona, in a great club that has a lot of importance for the Spanish professionals, and that also has the support of one of the greatest Spanish golfers: Pablo Larrazabal.
The Real Club de Golf de El Prat, partner of the Golfy Network and one of the most historic clubs in Spain, will host a new PGA National Tour tournament, which this year is called the “Spain Golf 50th Anniversary Tour”, in honour of its 50 years of service to Spanish golf professionals.
The Barcelona Open by Pablo Larrazábal will take place from 5 to 9 April at the Barcelona golf course in the presence of one of the greatest national icons, European Tour professional Pablo Larrazábal and member of the Catalan club. Alongside Pablo, other great professional golfers such as Álvaro Velasco will take part in this tournament, which will kick off another year – there are now seven editions – of the PGA España Tour.
The tournament will take place over three days of individual stroke play, from 6 to 8 April, with a cut on the second day. Of the maximum number of players set at 144, only 40 and ties will be allowed to play on the final day. In addition, international players who are members of any PGA can play and amateurs with a handicap of 4.4 or less also have the opportunity to participate in the tournament, and to compete against top-level professionals.
April 5 is the official practice day for the RCG El Prat Pink Course, considered the most difficult course at the Barcelona club and designed by Australian “white shark” Greg Norman. To finish the tournament, some of the professionals will play a Pro-Am on the 9th with members and friends of the Real Club de Golf El Prat.
Pablo Larrazábal, icon of the tournament, comments that “this tournament makes me very happy”. Álvaro Velasco asked me to collaborate in this tournament and here we are at home, playing and hosting this Tour on the 50th anniversary of the place where I started and which has helped me get to where I am today.
An example of the importance of hosting home tournaments is that, as well as helping the more experienced professionals to complete their calendar, it also gives younger players the opportunity to gain the necessary experience they need by playing and learning from the great players.
The RCG El Prat welcomes this tournament and encourages all professionals to play and support golf at the Barcelona Open by Pablo Larrazábal, in a high level course where the Club staff has worked to keep it in excellent condition, in the characteristic style of the Real Club de Golf El Prat.
