Since 2017, the Golf du Haut-Poitou, partner of the Golfy Network, organizes every year, upstream of the Pro-Am, an open day, of free golf discovery, for the school of the department.
Many classes of the surrounding schools such as Beaumont Saint-Cyr, Montamisé, Chauvigny, Poitiers, Saint-Georges les Baillargeaux, Marigny Brizay, Migné-Auxances, have been able to discover the golfing action, during 1h, on a day in September, in recent years, supervised by the liberal golf teachers, state graduate, Martin Guilbaud and Xavier Lazurowicz, supported by volunteers of the Association Sportive du Golf du Haut-Poitou.
Each time, these initiations were a great success with the children, who could be counted up to 390 years on this day.
For one hour, the children, by class, are brought to the driving range, discover the golf clubs and their handling, the gesture of the drive and the putting.
Generally, several professional players registered for the Pro-Am, competition of the next day, already present at the golf, also come to help these novice golfers and offer them a demonstration of their golf strokes, under the astonished gaze of young budding golfers.
For this year 2022, the Golf du Haut-Poitou, in line with its environmental values and the approach started with the French Golf Federation, within the framework of the Golf Environment Charter, wanted to propose a section on biodiversity during this day of discovery of golf.
The students of Ecole René Cassin de Jaunay Marigny’s Third Grade – Third Grade – Fourth Grade were able to test this new operation as a preview during their visit to the golf course on Monday, June 27.
After a golf initiation and a picnic on site, the schoolchildren attended, in the open air, a presentation on the biodiversity of the golf and the whole Domaine du Lac de Saint-Cyr, then also made a discovery of the equipment of maintenance of the courses, guided by the green space manager.
A commitment to the environment
For many years the Golf du Haut-Poitou has been committed to environmental values.
Through the implementation of various good practices for the maintenance of the Golf, in connection with the values endorsed by the French Golf Federation, within the framework of the Golf Environment Charter, namely: reasoning weeding practices, favour mechanical operations, and opt for a differentiated management of grasslands (with late mowing for some areas), the Golf contributes to the preservation of species, thus promoting biodiversity.
The Golf du Haut-Poitou, in 2022, began a process, in conjunction with the French Golf Federation and the National Museum of Natural History, to obtain the Golf Label for Biodiversity.
The Beaumont Saint-Cyr courses are aimed at the Silver level.
As part of this process, the site will be the subject of an inventory of fauna and flora,
which will be led by the LPO Poitou-Charentes.
In its missions, the Golf du Haut-Poitou wishes above all to open this discipline to youth, while at the same time sensitizing them to the preservation of the environment.
